Overview

You’ve slogged your way through winter’s unyielding weather; you’ve endured slips and stumbles on the icy roads, frozen eyelashes, snot icicles, and frozen digits. Your runs (or should we call them, “shuffles”) have been mostly composed of donning and shucking various layers in order to maintain just the right amount of heat.

Well, time’s up, Old Man Winter...it’s time to run light and run fast.

Tri Fitness welcomes you to running in the Spring season with the Camp Wannarunamileormore ½ Marathon & 11k, a gorgeous run around Bald Eagle Lake, in addition to a 5K Run/Walk race and short Fun Run/Walk for kids and beginners.

This also happens to be perfect for a training run if you’re preparing for Grandma’s Marathon...weird how that works out :)

This race is part of our J.A.M.S. youth race series, with 2 distances: 1/4 mile and 1/2 mile.

Registration

There are two ways to sign up:

  • REGISTER ONLINE Once online registration has closed for 2015,  you can still register in the store, and race-day registration will be available at the park.

  Are you a Tri Club member? Get 25% off the race fee by registering in the store!

The race fees are as follows:

  • Half Marathon - $50 before 3/22, or $55 through 4/4, or $65 on race day
  • 11K - $40 before 3/22, or $45 through 4/4, or $55 on race day
  • 5K - $35 before 3/22, or $40 through 4/4, or $45 on race day
  • Fun Run - $20 through 4/4, or $25 on race day

 

Each participant registering prior to 3/22/2015 will receive a long sleeve T-shirt.  These are UNISEX shirts, and may run a little bit large, so please order accordingly.

NOTE:  If you register within 14 days of the race date, you will NOT receive a race shirt.  

Size chart - measure just under your arms, around your chest.  The shirts tend to run a little large, so if you're between sizes, you might want to go a size lower, but it's totally up to your individual preferences.

Packet Pick-Up

Your race packet will include all the materials you need for your race, such as your timing chip and race bib and some fun stuff like your complimentary race shirt and special offers.

Be sure to bring your race bib and timing chip on race day morning. Please be sure to bring only the timing chip for this race; DO NOT wear a timing chip from a prior race, or it may interfere with your time for Camp Wannarunamileormore, potentially not recording your effort.

Pick up your race packets at our retail store at 1338 Highway 96 East in White Bear Lake (get directions).

Race Location

The race is held at beautiful Bald Eagle Regional Park in White Bear Lake (get directions).  Parking on race day will be available within the parking lots adjacent to the park area. Signs and volunteers will direct the participants and volunteers.

Course Profile

We will have volunteers to help direct runners on the course, but as a race participant it is your responsibility to know where you're going ahead of time.  Please let us know if the directions are unclear.

Fluid replacement (water and HEED) will be available approximately every 3 miles for all races.

Volunteers will be stationed throughout the course and at critical turns/areas.

HALF MARATHON

The Half Marathon is a USATF-certified course.  The course is measured to be the shortest distance while following traffic laws and running AGAINST traffic.  At intersections, cross the road in a diagonal line (from left side of the road to left side of the next road), making sure to avoid traffic on the open course.

The race starts adjacent to the park’s parking lot and heads south on Hugo Rd, taking a right on Taylor Ave, which quickly merges into Bald Eagle Blvd.  

Continue on Bald Eagle until you come to Cty Rd H2.  Head west on H2 and continue until Otter Lake road.  Take a right on Otter Lake Rd and run uninterrupted for 3.5 miles, until you reach Cedar St.

Head east on Cedar St, which quickly becomes 140th st, Elmcrest Ave, and 24th Ave...it sounds complicated, but it’s really not - it’s pretty much a straight line.  You will then merge back onto Bald Eagle Blvd and continue south around the lake, back to the start/finish area.

11k

In order to accommodate our timer's capabilities, we had to make a slight change this year, and the course is now closer to an 11k than a 10k (it's about 0.5 miles longer than it used to be).  It's also much simpler - you will basically just run a counter-clockwise circle around the lake.

You will start near the parking lots, then follow Bald Eage Lake, with the course following the lake almost exactly.  There are a few merges onto other roads, but for the most part you stay on Bald Eagle Blvd, and run around counter-clockwise around the lake.

5K

The 5K course will showcase historic White Bear Township neighborhoods and run along beautiful Bald Eagle Lake for a distance before returning to Start/Finish.

FINISH

The finish area, where spectators and finishers can gather, watch and cheer will be located in the parking lot adjacent to the start/finish line.

Volunteers will assist in removing  timing chips.  Bottled water, and post-race snacks will be provided.

COURSE POLICIES

  • Always run AGAINST traffic - the course is open to vehicles.
  • Dogs are allowed.  You must start near the back of the pack and dogs must be leashed.
  • Strollers are allowed.  Please start near the back of the pack (or the far side).
  • Headphones are allowed.  Please pay attention to your surroundings at all times.

Awards and Prizes

Awards apply to Half Marathon and 11K races.  This year we'll be supplying medals for 1st and 2nd place age group winners in the Half Marathon and 11K, and an entrance to a Trifitness race of your choice (good for 12 months) for overall male and female winner in the Half Marathon and 11K.

Please note that awards are based on the "gun" start time, meaning the official race start.  They are not based on your individual chip time.  What's the difference?  Well, none really if you start near the front of the pack.  But if you're fast, and you start yourself at the back of the pack, it could cost you an award recognition.  So if you think you might be in contention to do well overall or in your age group, then please line up for the start near the front of the pack.

Kids' race finishers will receive a medal.

Half Marathon finishers will also receive a finisher metal.

    NOTE:  If you register within 14 days of the race date, you will NOT receive a t-shirt.  Price has been changed to reflect this.

Awards will be given to the following for the Half Marathon and 11K

  • Top overall Male & Female athletes
  • Top 2 Male & Female athletes in each age group (19 & Under, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70+)

Refund / Cancellation Policy

This policy has been created in fairness to all the athletes so that equal opportunity exists for registering for all Tri Fitness events.

Tri Fitness reserves the right to cancel or re-schedule an event in the event of inclement weather, emergency, or natural disaster.  In the event of such a cancellation, there will be no refund of entry or processing fees.   If Tri Fitness decides to cancel an event for reasons under our control, entry fees will be refunded to existing registrants.

There are no race transfers on race day, even if a registered athlete is a no-show and a slot is available.  This is to ensure that events start on time, for safety considerations and event management.

Severe Weather

There is a chance of inclement weather. The safety of our participants, volunteers, spectators, police and everyone else is our top priority, so we may need to make race-day adjustments.

The race director will have NOAA weather alerts via phone and walkie-talkie, and will monitor any severe weather alerts.  All volunteers will watch for lightning and alert the director immediately if they see it.  We will be following a 30-30 policy, which is: if we witness a flash of lightning, and hear thunder within 30 seconds, then we will delay the race by 30 minutes. Everyone should avoid any metal objects or tall, solitary objects and head to their car if possible. 

The roads will almost certainly be wet in that case.   Please watch for slick roads and standing water.

In the case of lightning during the course of the event, we may have to cancel and pull participants off the course. This will be the responsibility of the sag wagon and other volunteers as we can afford.   We will work to notfiy all participants currently on the course that the event is being canceled.

There are no refunds or transfers in the event we have to cancel the race, though we reserve the right to issue a transfer via email to registered participants. It is the absolute last option, but we have to have everyone's safety in mind.

Partial Refunds

Tri Fitness has a no refund policy.  If an athlete cannot participate for any reason, their registration may be transferred to another athlete at no additional charge.  For any transfers, please contact races@trifitnesswbl.com at least 7 days prior to the event to update athlete information.

Transfers

Under certain circumstances, race transfers can occur for an event within the same calendar year. A race transfer is defined as transferring an athlete’s registration to another race for any reason.

A race transfer can occur under the following conditions:

  • The request to transfer out of a race must be made 14 days or more prior to that scheduled event date.  No transfers will be allowed underneath this deadline unless there are extenuating circumstances.
  • Extenuating circumstances: If you have an injury (verified by a doctor's order) or a member of your immediate family has a death or a medical emergency and it is within 14 days of the scheduled event yet greater than 72 hours prior to the event, you will need to notify us in writing.  The race director will consider each request on a case by case basis after the event, for credit towards a future Tri Fitness event within the same calendar year.   No credits will be issued with less than 72 hours prior written notice to the event.
  • Transfers can be made to any race owned by Tri Fitness and list on our Events page.   Race transfers are only allowed once per person, per season.
  • Credit for the transfer will be based solely on the entry fee paid, and not inclusive of processing fees, etc.
  • If the race to which you are transferring has a higher entry fee as of the date of the transfer, you must pay the difference by making out a check to Tri Fitness.
  • There is a $5 fee to refund or transfer for any race and for any reason

Considerable effort goes into producing an event and funds are expended and applied in good faith based on a registration. Transferring two weeks out from an event can be managed, but under the two week limit a transfer causes considerable issues, both monetarily and organizationally as packets have been prepared with sized t-shirts, chip numbers have been requested based on the athlete’s entry, and perhaps a race has been closed in which a transfer would bar another athlete from entering the event.
